Celebrate this spooky season this October with NUMU by making popsicle spiderwebs and yarn-wrapped mummies!
Create your spider web by weaving yarn through a popsicle frame, and add a pipe cleaner spider to it! Then, make a mummy friend by cutting out a paper doll and wrap it in yarn to give its bindings.
Materials for this activity will be available during regular hours.
Spiderwebs are more than a spider’s home! Different spider species use their webs as tools. Tarantulas use their webs to reinforce their underground burrows. Jumping spiders use their webs as safety lines when hunting to save themselves from falls.
What are mummies? They are the remains of departed life ritualistically prepared through the process of mummification and stored in protected spaces. Numerous cultures view it as an honor.

New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) is excited to partner with LGS Recreation to deliver this week-long camp for young artists to create a unique artwork that captures their perspective on the history and charm of Los Gatos. Participants will learn art techniques, explore the museum’s art & history exhibitions, walk the Los Gatos Creek trail, learn about local flora and fauna, visit local Los Gatos historic landmarks, and even meet some key town officials. Each day we’ll focus on a new topic and by the end of the week students will have completed a one-of-a-kind painting reflecting the theme “Capturing Life in Los Gatos.” The camp concludes with a mini-art show where campers proudly display their work for family and friends. This is a highly engaging interactive art and history experience that you don’t want to miss.
