Celebrate Earth Day and the value of re-use while exploring creativity in our Makerspace. You are invited to drop-in and create your own cork doll by using reclaimed wine corks, fabric scraps, yarn and markers to make a figure. This historic craft is rooted in the Victorian era when hobbyists sought ways to repurpose cork bark. One way was creating these playful dolls from the high-quality wine cork for gifts or collectables.

Join us for an intimate conversation with the artists of Salon Jane. In this virtual event, the women of Salon Jane share their individual journeys to and through art and how they all came to be part of Salon Jane. Each artist will reflect on their histories, inspirations, and how their personal and professional lives shaped them into the artists they are today. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the artists directly at the end of the conversation.
Grab a needle and yarn for the May monthly craft, Photo-Stitching! Using black and white copies of photographs from our collection, you are invited to get creative and embellish with colorful yarn and simple stitches. While here, check out the new exhibition Salon Jane: Resonance, and see the conversations shared between the photographers’ works on display.

In this program, Girl Scout Juniors will earn their Art and Design Badge by creating a Tiny Art Show. We will explore NUMU’s galleries looking for art and design, paint a tiny canvas, experiment with color saturation, sculpt tiny pottery from clay, and design our own tiny art show with pedestals and frames. This tiny art and design experience will be big fun!
Meet at NUMU (New Museum Los Gatos) to 'hunt' for art with flowers, then draw a floral still life at an easel in their newly opened drawing studio.
Long known as “the Valley of Heart’s Delight”, Santa Clara Valley was the world’s largest producer of fruit, with acres of farmland providing a bounty of produce in an ideal climate. This decade saw a huge increase in population that came about for several reasons, including the growing technology industry that developed into what we now know as Silicon Valley. Learn more about Los Gatos in the 1960s with Amy Long, curator of our current exhibition, I Know A Place. Amy will also share her experiences living in Los Gatos in the 60s. We'd love to hear your stories, too!
This June, NUMU is celebrating Pride month with the return of a crowd favorite craft: Pride keychains! Step into our Lounge and decorate a keychain with lanyard cord and pony beads to match one of many Pride flags in the LGBTQ+ community, and learn the importance of the colors used in each of the flags.

New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) is excited to partner with LGS Recreation to deliver this week-long camp for young artists to create a unique artwork that captures their perspective on the history and charm of Los Gatos. Participants will learn art techniques, explore the museum’s art & history exhibitions, walk the Los Gatos Creek trail, learn about local flora and fauna, visit local Los Gatos historic landmarks, and even meet some key town officials. Each day we’ll focus on a new topic and by the end of the week students will have completed a one-of-a-kind painting reflecting the theme “Capturing Life in Los Gatos.” The camp concludes with a mini-art show where campers proudly display their work for family and friends. This is a highly engaging interactive art and history experience that you don’t want to miss.

It’s summertime at NUMU, and this July’s monthly craft is a camp special, paper tents! Visitors are invited to learn how to fold paper through origami to make an A-frame tent, and younger visitors can color, cut, and glue one together. Take this camp craft on the trail or for stay-at-home stargazing fun.

Join local artist John Paul Amaral for a beading circle and conversation on its significance in Native American Indigenous cultures. John Paul will introduce students to methods of beadwork to create a traditional hairpipe choker necklace. While creating their own treasures, the beading circle will host a conversation about the significance of beadwork in American Indigenous cultures, how the art expanded over time, and its place in living history.
Join us for a brief tour of the history gallery, followed by a talk about Mountain Charley, the man, the myth, the legend. We will be joined by Los Gatos historian Bill Wulf.

The Beat poets were legendary, and Neal Cassady lived right here in Los Gatos. Join us for a talk by "Los Gatan" publisher, Dan Pulcano, as he shares his personal reminiscences of Cassady and the Beats.
Ming Quong, a local historic school for Chinese girls, was an iconic part of Los Gatos history, and we are honored to have Janet Chang, a former resident of Ming Quong, join us to share her memories.
