Celebrate our nation’s 250th Sesquicentennial by participating in our Handwriting the Constitution community art project. Participants will transcribe portions of the U.S. Constitution on large foamcore whiteboards using black felt-tip markers.
Participants at all levels of artistic skill are welcome. The transcriptions will be assembled into a single large-scale collective artwork-the entire U.S. Constitution written by diverse hands-and will be installed for the public in Los Gatos.
Participating in the handwriting sessions can be meditative, thought-provoking, and reflective. We hope that participants will have a renewed sense of the importance of, and appreciation for, our Constitution. We will collect comments, impressions and observations from participants about their experience.
This program is made in partnership with the Town of Los Gatos. More information can be found at www.handwritetheconstitution.com
Treat yourself to art this October at NUMU by making paper slip pumpkins and marigold tissue garlands. Visit our MakerSpace to create your own pumpkin using silly scissors and slips of colorful paper. Then, make a hanging garland of marigolds from tissue paper and pipe cleaners. These crafts are perfect for the autumnal festivities.
NUMU has the sitch on the stitch with November’s monthly craft: woven burlap bookmarks! Enjoy being mindful while you stitch and weave yarn into your own patterned bookmark. If you need inspiration, check out the exhibition Los Gatos History Project in the History Hall and see the textile artistry of Rebecca Maria Baila née Bogni and her family’s historic seamstry practice.
New Museum Los Gatos welcomes the South Bay community to celebrate Reawakening: Muwekma Ohlone Culture and Connection in Pursuit of Recognition and Reawakening: Reciprocity of Land, Sea, and the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe at our Community Day on November 7th. This occasion will feature family-friendly activities, refreshments, games, and exhibition-inspired activations to honor and celebrate the culture and experiences of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. Stay tuned for more details!
Visit NUMU this holiday season to make yarn-wrapped ornaments and DIY gift tags. Use our handy templates to trace and cut out your ornament’s pattern and wrap yarn around the frame. Decorate your own gift tag to use when giving a present this season.
In this program, Girl Scout Juniors will earn their Art and Design Badge by creating a Tiny Art Show. We will explore NUMU’s galleries looking for art and design, paint a tiny canvas, experiment with color saturation, sculpt tiny pottery from clay, and design our own tiny art show with pedestals and frames. This tiny art and design experience will be big fun!
Share the care this February at NUMU with our monthly craft: strawberry gift boxes! You are invited to create your own gift box inspired by the vintage strawberry candy wrappers we all love. Work at your own pace, tracing, cutting, and folding a strawberry-shaped gift box. They are a sweet way to share candies and favors!
Learn about the art of bookmaking at NUMU! We will explore how books are made and try a variety of bookmaking techniques for ourselves. Girl Scout Cadettes will fold, stitch, staple, and experiment with bookmaking tools to make fun and functional books. We will use a variety of interesting papers and design our own marbled paper using shaving cream!
