Belle Yang: Between Memory and Becoming
Born in Taiwan, Belle Yang is an author and illustrator of adult nonfiction books, children's books, and a graphic memoir. She spent part of her childhood in Japan. At age seven, she emigrated to the United States with her mother and father.
Yang’s work moves fluidly between memory and imagination, drawing from personal history, cultural inheritance, and everyday life. Trained as both a painter and storyteller, she has developed a distinctive visual language that weaves ink, color, and narrative into an effective and immersive practice.
